Introducing LGen (ret) Walter Semianiw as a new Council member

April 4, 2017

I am pleased to announce that Lieutenant-General (ret) Walter Semianiw, CMM, MSC, CD has accepted my invitation to join my Advisory Council.

The Council is made up of eight volunteers with specialized expertise in the Canadian Armed Forces, the Department of National Defence, Veterans Affairs Canada and government management. Members provide input and strategic advice directly to me on issues impacting my office’s constituents. The council also provides important input on some of the broader issues facing the Department of National Defence and the Canadian Armed Forces, including: operational stress injuries and post-traumatic stress disorder, the treatment of military members who are injured in the course of their service, and the challenges facing military families.

LGen (ret) Semianiw spent 32 years as a member of the Canadian Armed Forces. He notably served with the Privy Council Office, as the Commandant of the Canadian Forces College, as the Canadian Contingent Commander in Afghanistan, the Chief Military Personnel and as the Commander of Canada Command.  He was also Assistant-Deputy Minister at Veterans Affairs Canada.

His broad experience and knowledge will serve the Council very well. I am looking forward to getting his input on various topics.
