Ombudsman to Honour Members of Canada’s Defence Community at the Annual Liz Hoffman Commendations Ceremony

Message from the Ombudsman | 15 October 2019

Members of Canada’s Defence community are invited to the Ombudsman’s 18th annual commendations ceremony in Ottawa. I will be presenting six extraordinary individuals with the Liz Hoffman Memorial Commendation.

Liz Hoffman was an investigator with our office who had a deeply rooted sense of fairness and was a tremendous force for positive change. This commendation allows us to recognize those in the Defence community who, like Liz, are dedicated to helping others and making a difference.

This year’s recipients are Ms. Felicia Arsenault (Manager of Military Family Services for Canadian Special Operations Forces Command, CANSOFCOM), Master Seaman River Leggat (section supervisor with the Royal Canadian Navy), Chief Warrant Officer David Ridley (Canadian Forces Military Police Academy), and the Command Team of HMCS Carleton: Commander Sheyla Dussault, Lieutenant-Commander Chris Knowlton, and Chief Petty Officer 1st Class Nancy Lachance. These recipients translated their dedication and inspiration into action. They changed lives and brought about significant and lasting change at National Defence and the Canadian Armed Forces.

The commendations ceremony will take place on Thursday, October 17, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. in the Warrant Officers’ and Sergeants’ Mess in Ottawa, Ontario (4 Queen Elizabeth Drive). I hope everyone will consider joining us to recognize the outstanding achievements of six members of our Defence community.

Please inform Ms. Dominique Perreault (Dominique-Emmanuelle.Perreault@forces.gc.ca) if you plan to attend.
