If you contact us with an issue that involves compelling circumstances, we may forward your case right away to an investigator or a complaint analyst.
But what is a compelling circumstance?
It could be a health concern, financial concern or security concern for you or your family.
A situation can also be considered compelling, if we think that it could be a systemic issue – something that would affect a large number of people within the Defence Community.
Let’s look at an example:
A Regular Force member’s spouse had recently been posted, and the Canadian Armed Forces, who was concerned about splitting up the family, was trying to post her to the same location.
This was a problem because she was on sick leave and needed to continue to receive treatment at her current posting.
Their child was also receiving special support for a severe learning disability. A move would have put his academic success at risk.
The member applied to stay posted at her current location, but this request was denied.
She then contacted us for help. Since her issue involved the immediate health of her and her family, it was considered a compelling circumstance and the Intake Officer forwarded her file to a complaint analyst right away.
In the end, we were able to help. It turned out that some critical information was missing from her file. Her file was reviewed and her posting was cancelled.
She was then able to focus on her health and the needs of her family.
