Dear Minister Sajjan:

It was a pleasure meeting with you on 21 September 2017 to discuss files of mutual interest to both our offices. I am writing to you today on the issue of Canadian Ranger Instructor-to-Canadian Ranger ratios.

As you know, issues surrounding Canadian Ranger Instructor ratios were brought to my attention during several constituent engagement visits, and over the course of my Office’s investigation into Canadian Ranger healthcare.

At our meeting, you mentioned that the current Canadian Ranger Instructor ratios are of concern to you. You also mentioned that the Department is looking to make changes and improvements in this area.

I welcome an update on what progress has been made on this important file, and more specifically, on the initiatives that the Department of National Defence and Canadian Armed Forces are undertaking to improve the situation with respect to ratios.

If my Office can be of any assistance in moving this file forward, please let me know.

I appreciate your continued interest in making improvements to the lives of Canadian Ranger Instructors. I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Gary Walbourne
Ombudsman
