Dear Mr. Walbourne (Gary),

Having just returned to the office this week, I am writing belatedly to thank you, and members of your team, for meeting with me, and Ian, during our visit to Ottawa a couple of weeks ago.

It was great to have the opportunity to meet again and I really appreciated how much time you and your colleagues gave up for us. As well as discussing some good business substance, the meeting was also fun!

Our responsibilities, and hence the size of our teams and scale of operations, vary somewhat but it was clear that many of the issues and challenges that we face are common, including: the time taken to complete investigations, a shortage of qualified investigators, governance arrangements with your National Defence HQ, serial complainers etc.

I am sure that there is much more that we can do to assist each other in the challenges that we share and it would be good to utilise the strong linkage that I believe we have between our offices should any opportunities for consultation arise in the future.

I had an extremely useful visit to the USA and Canada meeting UK Armed Forces personnel in Washington DC; Norfolk, VA; the British Army Training Unit Suffield and finally at Creech Air Force Base, NV. There is no substitute for getting out and meeting people in their place of work to really find out about the issues that concern them.

Finally, thank you for providing lunch for Ian and myself (coincidentally, the best wraps I had had in Canada!), for your gift and for showing us some good Canadian hospitality!

I know you will be moving on in the foreseeable future, I wish you all the very best in whatever you decide to do.
